At the opening ceremony of the Cashless Festival 2024, the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS) had the honor of welcoming Deputy Prime Minister Lê Thành Long along with delegates, including leaders from the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, the State Bank of Vietnam, and various departments and agencies, to participate in the area showcasing and experiencing new payment technologies.
These technologies included user facial recognition payment, Tap to Phone, and NAPAS chip card payments…
This program is part of the Cashless Day 2024 series of events organized by Tuổi Trẻ newspaper in collaboration with the Payment Department and Communication Department of the State Bank of Vietnam, with NAPAS as a coordinating unit.
With the strong growth of electronic payments, new payment technologies are increasingly developing to enhance user experience, speed up payments, and improve security, safety, and fraud prevention in payment transactions.
NAPAS introduced the Deputy Prime Minister and other delegates to biometric payment technology, a payment method based on facial recognition authentication technology.
Under the observation of the leaders, NAPAS representatives demonstrated the process from entering the payment amount to authentication through facial scanning on the payment application to quickly complete the transaction. NAPAS representatives also shared that the technology allows recognition based on the user’s face stored in the bank’s system, matched with secure elements on the chip-embedded citizen identity card issued by the Ministry of Public Security. Integrated AI technology assesses fraud risks, helping to minimize the risk of losing money and fraudulent transactions.
Currently, NAPAS is coordinating with banks to conduct pilot trials. Once officially operational, the service will enhance the seamless payment experience for users and increase security features in payment transactions.
Let’s look back at some memorable images from the NAPAS payment experience area during the three-day Cashless Festival (from June 14 to June 16, 2024) in Ho Chi Minh City:
