Through three implementations, the Vietnam Card Day event series has contributed to promoting cashless payment habits among young people. Building on the success achieved in 2020, 2021, and 2023, the 2024 Vietnam Card Day will continue to contribute to realizing the goals of the Scheme on Cashless Payment Promotion in Vietnam for the 2021-2025 Period and the National Financial Inclusion Strategy to 2025, Vision to 2030 of the Government. It also aims to create positive changes in cashless payments in the economy with high growth rates, making the use of cashless payment methods a habit for urban residents and gradually expanding to rural, remote, and isolated areas; enhance access to banking services for the economy; and promote banking payments for public services… At the 2024 Vietnam Card Day event, the concept of Open Banking was introduced in the context of the banking industry facing a comprehensive digital transformation. Open Banking allows banks to share data with third parties, providing customers with an innovative and superior experience. This trend is considered one of the key drivers of change, promising to create breakthroughs in the provision of banking products and services.

Vietnam Card Day 2024 targets students, young families, and individuals aged 15-40 who have a demand for digital and online payment methods through banking services such as Internet banking, mobile banking, as well as banking services integrated into third-party platforms like online public services, e-commerce platforms, online booking, and transportation services.

The future trend in banking revolves around digital technology, with applications in payment methods such as Tap to Pay, Tap to Phone, QR code payments, e-wallets, and mobile payments, along with digital technologies like electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC).

Identified as "digital natives", young consumers are the group most ready to adopt digital payment and digital banking experiences, selecting methods that suit them best.

Vietnam Card Day 2024 delivers the message "LIVE CHILL – PAY IN STYLE", affirming the youth’s continuous development and their willingness to embrace change by adopting new technologies.

Speaking at the press conference announcing the 2024 Vietnam Card Day, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Director of the Payment Department at the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), stated: "Credit institutions are shifting from the traditional banking model to an open banking model, enhancing connectivity and technology integration across various fields. This transformation serves as a bridge for information exchange between banks and businesses, supporting the effective implementation of consumer payment and business activities. With a customer-centric approach, this model offers more choices and personalized services while ensuring safety and security, promoting the adoption of cashless payments among individuals and businesses."

Mr. Pham Anh Tuan also expressed confidence that the 2024 Vietnam Card Day event series will provide a direct and diverse platform for Vietnamese youth and banks to engage, offering real-world experiences of modern payment methods aligned with global technology standards. These methods, which are being introduced and gradually popularized in Vietnam, include contactless chip card payments, short-range wireless payments through NFC (Near-Field Communications), online and offline payments at points of sale via QR codes, and online payments for digital services and e-commerce through mobile banking applications. They are combined with supporting solutions and services such as secure biometric authentication, card information encryption (tokenization), and safe and convenient electronic identification (eKYC).

Financial education and communication also play a crucial role in promoting the digital transformation of banking and cashless payments, including card payments. In recent years, the banking sector’s communication efforts have been continuously innovated and enriched with diverse content, various presentation formats, and the application of modern technology to enhance dissemination, which ensures that information is easy to understand, remember, and implement for the public. SBV has been collaborating with media agencies to produce financial education programs such as "Smart Money, Wise Spending", "The Savvy Coin", and "Master of the Purse Strings". In particular, the SBV has strengthened communication on social media platforms and worked with relevant agencies to establish a verified Financial Education Fanpage (https://www.facebook.com/giaoductaichinh.official) to introduce financial and banking products and services, including cashless payment services, warns against the scams and tricks of cybercriminals, and provides guidance for people on how to use banking services and develop skills for security and safety in cashless payments in particular and digital banking services in general.

Journalist Phung Cong Suong, Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper and Co-Chair of the 2024 Vietnam Card Day Organizing Committee, stated: "The strong changes in all aspects of life, along with the emergence and influence of technologies like ChatGPT and the 4.0 Revolution, have positioned the banking sector as a pioneer in digital transformation, allowing it to quickly integrate into daily life and serve people more effectively. The theme of the 2024 Vietnam Card Day, Live Chill – Pay in Style, reflects this development trend. We believe that the diverse and vibrant activities of the 2024 Vietnam Card Day will attract great interest from Gen Z – a generation that embraces technology, masters it, and will become the backbone of the nation. One of the standout activities of Vietnam Card Day is charity work. This year, the Organizing Committee has decided to call for donations to provide a computer classroom for a school in an area severely affected by Typhoon YAGI."

Journalist Phung Cong Suong noted that the 2024 Vietnam Card Day marks the first time that the Hanoi People’s Committee will participate as a co-director of the seminar "Hanoi - Smart City and Open Banking Ecosystem", scheduled for October 2. The seminar is expected to draw interest from policymakers, businesses, and banks with discussions on timely and emerging topics.

The Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper also shared that, based on the rapid and breakthrough growth of cashless payments over the four seasons of Vietnam Card Day, the Organizing Committee is currently seeking guidance from the State Bank of Vietnam regarding a name change for the Vietnam Card Day program. The new name will ensure alignment with future trends in digital payment methods.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung, Chairman of the Board of Directors at NAPAS, and the co-organizer of Vietnam Card Day, stated: "To establish a unified and synchronized national payment infrastructure capable of integrating and connecting various sectors, thereby expanding the digital ecosystem, NAPAS will continue to introduce new payment technologies during the 2024 Vietnam Card Day event series and their application into various fields and daily activities of businesses and individuals.

Together with banks and partners, we are bringing a variety of engaging and exciting experiential activities. Through this, the 2024 Vietnam Card Day will provide an opportunity for the banking industry to showcase new developments in digital banking as well as modern banking products and services. Young people will have the chance to explore and learn about these modern banking products and services, while also enhancing their skills in using banking services safely and effectively."

On this occasion, along with the mega sale program during the 2024 Vietnam Card Day, NAPAS, banks, and major partners will launch a series of promotions and incentives for customers when spending and making payments using NAPAS cards domestically and internationally. The practical benefits of these programs will create attraction and encourage customers to use card payment methods more frequently, thanks to their outstanding advantages of safety and high security, thereby promoting growth in cashless payments in general and local card transactions in particular.

The 2024 Vietnam Card Day will feature six main activities: a press conference to announce the series of events on September 26; the Online Mega Sale Campaign (September 30 - October 26); a thematic seminar on October 2; a career orientation seminar at the National Economics University on October 4; and the 2024 Vietnam Card Day Event - Sóng Festival at the Bach Khoa Stadium (October 5-6).

The 2024 Vietnam Card Day - Sóng Festival will be a venue where customers can experience all types of payment methods on various devices. In addition to providing young people with the opportunity to explore the latest payment technologies, participating organizations will also offer numerous practical gifts throughout the event.
